Kids Believe It or Not Faith Lasts a Lifetime New

Adults have a lot of baggage. Duh. Tell me something new, you sarcastically quip. And yes, I see that eyeroll. Adults want to believe they are untouched, unphased by fudging whatever whenever.

Expand truth, manipulate circumstances, force opportunity.

Translation: lie, cheat, steal… not big stuff?

OK… sometimes big stuff. We like to believe all the good we do will tip the scales our way at the Pearly Gates. That’s an untruth too. But it puts off inevitable accountability literally into eternity. Kids aren’t that way.

Kids Believe Differently

Make no mistake, kids are not confused with angels for a reason. But early in life, before they learn adult ways, children have a willingness to trust… to believe. Somewhere along the way you’ve read if you don’t believe like a child, you will bypass heaven. That’s troubling. What do kids do that we don’t?

Grandson Goes Forward

Our number one Grandson made an after-salvation decision to be baptized this Sunday, so seeking out his child-like faith seems timely.

What do you believe? – We all need a savior… Bible says if we confess and believe… Jesus will save any who call on His name.

Could you wait and decide later? – I’ve thought a lot about who and what to believe… and I am a believer.

Why baptism? – It shows I trust in Christ’s death, burial resurrection… identify with Him.

Any doubts about your faith? – No… I’m good.

Baptism After Belief

Oxymoron of Outsmarting God

And there it is… the surety of simple and sound trust. Not in Mom, Dad, a minister, church, or good deeds. Rather in the One who said become (believe) like children so you don’t miss the kingdom of heaven. Our adult logic, doubt, disbelief and ever-present sophistication may tell us otherwise. Perhaps that’s why right before that heavenly statement Jesus was indignant and said to let the children come to Him – because the kingdom of God is theirs.

So, there will be a lot of children in heaven? I don’t think that is the point. Rather, leave our adult boasting, baggage, sin and self-sufficiency at the cross…. believe in Jesus… like a child.

Whatever is ahead, believe he’s ready.

Grandson had a great Sunday and so did the whole family. He’s approaching the teen years and who knows what’s ahead. Early on he was going to be a preacher, then firefighter, engineer, and now baseball player. Whatever he does will be fine. What he believes… will last a lifetime and beyond.
